Babe's Ducks

Forever Flock
Leia is our baby who started it all. We brought her home from a farm store before we knew anything about duck husbandry. Our love for her pushed us to learn more every day. She is a sassy girl who has no problem telling you how she REALLY feels. She also has a soft side and loves to have her feet gently rubbed at bedtime.
Ilo is a little snuggler. She never misses a chance to be reminded of how much she is loved. She is our alarm clock in the morning. She gets up before everybody else and lets the whole world know it’s time to start the day. She is from our first hatch ever. She was born with a small liver and requires a special diet which includes a lot of produce and meal prep, along with supplements. We are happy to do the extra work for her because she brings us so much joy!
Melon is our very first rescue. She was given to us by someone who could not provide the specialized care she needs. When she was a baby, she lost one eye to an infection. Her other eye was pecked in by her former flock. She finds her way around our yard as long as we keep everything in the same place. Rainstorms scare her so we have to hold her while it’s raining, but we never mind ducky snuggles! She loves going to the lake with us and foraging in the creek. She requires ongoing medical treatment for her eyes but we feel blessed she chose our flock!
Ankka came to us as a duckling. This baby was about to be “released” outside as a tiny puffball with no feathers. Thankfully a friend reached out to see if we could help. Of course we did! Ankka has been an enormous blessing and is our flock sentinel. This kid’s favorite treats are blackberries and we often see evidence of this by “lipstick” on the bill. This baby follows us around EVERYWHERE and is often found running around behind us in our yard and house!
Our sweet Quimby. The “twin” of Ilo. We lost Quimby to a reproductive infection. She was an essential member of our flock and we miss her every day. Losing her caused us to dive even further into learning about duck healthcare, and we have come so far since. It was the loss of Quimby that launched us into getting our federal permit for the rehabilitation of wild waterfowl. She is with us through every second of this journey. Every “win” is for Quimby.
We specialize in ducks, but we love chickens too! Elsa came to us from a very loving home. She had soft tissue injury all throughout her body from an accident. We treated her medical issues and her former owner offered to let us keep her. Of course we said yes! She is a vital part of our flock. She alerts everyone when a predator is nearby; especially hawks. We love listening to the little sounds she makes, and this girl lays well into the winter!
